when i see a saying such as 'nba cares'
i start as a skeptic and work my way down from there
everytime i see someone photo opping giving out turkeys or holding a
baby
i think 'why do they have to take a picture of it? why can't they
just be a decent person and do what is right without self
aggrandizing and publicizing it?'
the publicity in itself makes me question the nature or motivation of
the act
but i at once felt a connection to the intelligence of holding the
all star game in new orleans this year
it was a wise move and the best move the nba could have done
and rooted in true compassion
i say, publicize new orleans!
the halftime show was the best i have ever seen at a major sporting
event
new orleans the birthplace of jazz!
neville! baptiste! dr.john! these are names you want to see at a
concert in new orleans

real music, improvisation, spirit
better than some pop star lip synching around to a fake audience
i only wish even more attention could have been paid to the
destruction and displacement caused by katrina
and the lack of help and funding to come to the people of this great
city
they are still hurting there
i applaud the volunteers and do gooder hard workers who go down there
and work hard trying to save houses and help people
and i applaud the nba for holding the all star game there to lend a
hand and show support and build awareness
but lets quit with the billions to iraq and, among other things, take
care of our folks in new orleans

and as a dead serious laker fan
i consider every other team and player my enemy
no matter how good of a player or team they are and no matter how
cool of a person they may be, they are my enemy
but, truth be told, i occasionally allow myself to be a fan of other
players even though i want them to lose
and i cant help but be a fan of chris paul's and the way laker byron
scott has this team playing
chris paul is a basketball genius
if phil jackson ever stops being the laker coach
i'm hoping he can zen into it for another thousand years
but if for some mortal reason he does retire
byron scott is first on my list to be his successor

i love going to the game
i love the freaks at the game
i love the hippies the yuppies the gangbangers the lawyers the
corporate suits the trendy teenagers
the flaunters the humble fans the true fans the band wagoneers the
thugs the thoughtful
the fathers and mothers and kids the intelligent observers of the
game the drunken yelling morons
the hot silicone chicks with painted fingernails who parade around and
dont pay attention to the game
the black the white the brown the red the yellow
i love em all at the game
when everyone is rooting together
when we all come together
when we are all one for a little while but like it should always be
thats cool

its been extra cool going to the laker game lately
when they come out on the court to do warm ups
the place is already mostly full
and they come jogging out and you can feel that they are intense
before a ball has even flown towards the net
there is this aura of unity and power around them
it is really changed, the vibe, since the last few years
it hasnt felt like this since magic johnson retired

and they are just full of characters from top to bottom
kobe, the focus, the leader, the best current player on
earth.........one of the greatest to ever step on the court
derek fisher, the soul the integrity
pau gasol, the wily intellectual spaniard who has managed to fit
right in and understand how to lift the lakers immediately, an
amazing thing, they way he fell into synch with the lakers so quickly
lamar, what a great all around player, that mischievious scalliiwag,
i am so glad he did not get traded for jermaine oneal, i love that
guy even though he eyeballs my wife at every game we go to
radmanovic, that snow boarding three point shooting vlad the impaler
jordan farmar!! whoo hoo..straight out of taft high school and ucla
and then to the lakers! yeeeaaaaah l.a. boy!!!, this kid is an energy
spark plug
just like trevor ariza! westchester high and ucla!!!!! whoooo whom
will be a huge help when he returns
andrew bynum our wunderkind, the classic back to the basket center,
with the smooth moves and the long arms, the great center, could be
the best in the league with yao out..????? anyways what a beautiful
kid and he has the same birthday as my daughter sunny bebop, man i
cant wait til he gets back
sasha vujacic the machine! he has really turned me around, he was one
guy i just wasnt sure about and he has really developed into a
consistent player..... playing d and draining em!
rony turiaf, the guy with the biggest heart in the nba! the energy
booster the great defender in the post!!! what a dancing twirling joy
it is to have him around!!!!!!!!! booooom bop! baaaaaaah!!!w3hoooo
luuuuuuuuuuuuuke, he seems to be finally coming back from that
injury, he is our stablizer
didier mbenga......from the congo! i love this guy, wish he could
play more i hope is a laker for ten more years
and coby karl..who else has two kobe cobys on one team! no one but
the lakes! the whitest guy in the nba! he's gonna show his skills
before it is all said and done
laker fans love coby karl like we used to love chuck nevitt....
